Great Lakes Airway and Sleep — Get down to real sleep. Canton, MI.
Canton, Michigan · 5730 N Lilley Rd

Most nights, you never get below the surface.

Sleep has depth. Obstructive sleep apnea keeps pulling you back up to the top of it, over and over, until morning arrives and nothing has been repaired. A custom oral appliance keeps the airway open so the night can go deep.

Four layers you are missing

Each layer of sleep does a different job. Apnea takes them from the bottom up — the deepest ones go first.

Surface

Awake, briefly, again

Every obstruction ends in a micro-arousal. You will not remember a single one of them, but the night is spent on them.

Shallow

Light sleep, on repeat

The night restarts instead of progressing. This is why you can be in bed nine hours and feel like you slept for two.

Deep

Slow-wave repair

Blood pressure drops, tissue rebuilds, growth hormone releases. Apnea reaches this layer least often.

Deepest

REM, where mood lives

Memory consolidates and emotional regulation resets. It is the layer patients notice returning first after treatment.

What we do here

One therapy, done thoroughly, for three kinds of patient.

Person sleeping
Diagnosed OSA

Oral appliance therapy

A custom mandibular advancement device, built from a digital scan and titrated over follow-up visits until a repeat sleep test confirms it is working.

No diagnosis

Snoring assessment

Not all snoring is apnea, and not all apnea snores. We evaluate the airway and tell you honestly whether a sleep test is warranted before selling you anything.

CPAP intolerance

Switching from CPAP

We coordinate with your sleep physician, document the intolerance properly for your insurer, and move you to appliance or combination therapy.

Treatment room where appliances are fitted

Customized equipment, in the literal sense

The practice is enumerated for durable medical equipment because that is what the appliance is: a prescribed device, made for one airway, adjusted against how that person actually sleeps.

  • Intraoral scan — no impression trays
  • Appliance delivered and seated at visit two
  • Advancement titrated in small increments you control
  • Efficacy confirmed by a follow-up sleep test
  • Annual review of fit, bite and wear

Patients

I had the machine four years and used it maybe twenty nights. The appliance I have never once taken out mid-night.

They checked my benefits and handed me a printed number before anything was ordered. That alone was worth the drive.
Priya S.Canton, MI
I sleep in a truck cab. There is no outlet, no water, no room. This fits in a case the size of a sandwich.

Questions

For apnea, yes. An appliance is prescribed against a diagnosis, so we need a study interpreted by a physician — a home test is usually sufficient. If you have never been tested and only know that you snore, come in and we will tell you whether testing is worth arranging.

As medical, not dental. Oral appliance therapy for diagnosed obstructive sleep apnea is a covered medical benefit under most plans. We verify your benefits and give you the out-of-pocket figure in writing before the appliance is ordered.

CPAP is more effective per hour worn. Appliances are worn far more consistently. For mild and moderate apnea the real-world outcomes are close, which is why appliance therapy is a recognised first-line option — and why we confirm your result with a repeat sleep test rather than assuming it.

Small changes in how the teeth meet are the most common long-term effect. We record your bite at baseline, check it at every visit and use a morning repositioner. If changes become significant we adjust the appliance or change approach.

Roughly two weeks from scan to delivery, then adjustment visits across two to three months, then annual checks.
